Emergency response system which are designed to conquer any life threatening situation are known as the Auto medical alert system. It is a small non invasive device that provides independent security and faster response to people with limited mobility, senior citizens, and people with sickness like – asthma, Alzheimer’s disease, diabetes, epilepsy, emphysema, heart disease, muscular dystrophy, multiple sclerosis, stroke, Parkinson’s disease, and those being recovered from major surgeries.

Akin to some other electronic medical alert systems, auto medical alert system have a medical alert console, wireless alert button, and sensing element. The important feature of an auto medical alert system is a related 24 hour staffed alert monitoring centre, that offers reliable medical assistance to its subscribers. This alert button is very trivial, which weighs about ounce only, and may be worn on your wrist or around your neck. Its water resistance allows it to be worn in the bath or shower.

The console is very small in size so that it can be easily mounted on a wall or get fitted on a table. It gets signals from up to 1000 feet distance. The console is linked with a telephone line as well as plugged in an electrical outlet. The console mechanically call up monitoring service when it receives an alert signal from the button. Then it sets up a two way hands free communiqué between the monitoring personnel and patient, until help comes. The monitoring centre functions as per the requirement. The key benefit is that there is no option need to installed or programmed for using the auto medical alert systems.

In some auto medical alert systems the fall detection sensor is used and it is worn in a particular belt. The sensor automatically call upon emergency help in case the wearer is suffering fall. Monthly test call reminders, remote call answering, automatic voice-to-voice communication and power back-up facility causes to make it a ideal choice for patients. More than a few important telephone numbers may be stored into auto medical alert system.

A medical ventilator is an important medical equipment or device that is designed to help breathable air to move in and out of the patient’s lungs, in other words it provides the mechanism of breathing for a patient who may not be in a condition to physically breathe or who breathes insufficiently. These medical ventilators are used in hospital intensive care units, in home care and as a component of an anesthetic machine, to administer anesthesia.

In its most basic form, a modern ventilator system consists of a compressible air reservoir, supplier of air and oxygen, a set of tubes and valves. If a turbine is used in the ventilator, the turbine pushes the air through the ventilating system into the patient’s body through a system of tubes and valves. Most Ventilators are also equipped with monitoring devices and alarm systems, in concern to pressure, the volume and the flow of the air. The modern ventilators are equipped with electronically controlled monitoring systems, which can adapt the pressure and the flow according to the needs of the patient. There are certain fine tuning settings that can be carried out on the ventilator to make the process more comfortable for the patient and also more tolerable. In the United States there are specialized respiratory therapists whose advice is taken before tuning the setting of the ventilator accordingly. Those patients who require breathing assistance only during the period of sleep or while resting; noninvasive methods are used to help the ventilators to work. They mainly employ the use of noninvasive nasal masks. The invasive methods for using this system includes intubation, usually used for long term dependence on ventilators, for this, the method used would be a tracheotomy cannula, this is more comfortable to administer than a larynx or nasal intubation.

The failure of the functioning of a mechanical ventilation system may result in death and therefore the system is classifies as being a life – critical system, and precautions such as the power supply to the equipment must be taken care of at all times. These are therefore designed to contain manual back up techniques so that no one – point of failure would obstruct the equipment from functioning completely. These are therefore fit with emergency back up gas tanks with compressed air or have back up batteries to provide adequate supply in case of a power failure.

A Hypodermic Needle is a special Medical Equipment which is used by medical professionals with a syringe to inject liquids and fluids into a patient’s body or even to extract fluids from the body itself, for example to take blood from the vein of the patient. Its main function is to deliver quickly a drug into the circulatory system of the patient, when circumstances prevent the drug to be digested normally by the patient, or in cases when the drug would not be absorbed by the body itself, as is the case with insulin or because the drug could possibly harm the liver of the patient, as is the case with testosterone.

These needles are made of stainless steel in the form of a tube. The ends are usually sharpened to different bevels according to requirement. The sharp point of the needle tip helps to penetrate the skin easily. The rule is that when the needle is inserted, the bevel must be facing upwards.

The diameter of needle itself is indicated by the gauge of the needle. There are a variety of lengths of needle available for every kind of needle gauge according to requirement. For most common medical use, needle gauges range from seven to thirty three, seven being the largest. The size that is most commonly used for drawing blood for testing purposes is the twenty one gauges. Sixteen or seventeen number gauge is usually used to make blood donations.

Hypodermic needles are most likely to be used by medical professionals, such as doctors, nurses or paramedics; however they are many a times used by patients themselves. This is usually the case with those patients suffering from diabetes of type one; they require several injections of insulin everyday. Even such patients who suffer from asthma or other such allergies may have to administer medication by using these needles themselves, as they might require the medication at any point of time. Such patients require carrying desensitization needles or carrying the syringes filled with Benadryl or the likes. This would prevent these patients from suffering from an attack or an allergic reaction. These Hypodermic needles are also often used for recreational drug use that is administered by the user intravenously. Earlier on, these needles could be obtained only through prescription; however most countries now allow such needles to be dispensed without prescription.

Medical Equipment management is a vital feature of handling a clinical department and must not be taken lightly by those that manage such a department. This includes maintaining an oversight over all the medical equipment that is required to monitor, diagnose or treat a patient correctly. The activities concerned with such management include selection and purchasing of the required equipments along with its maintenance, inspection and final disposal. This kind of management is a recognized profession within the medical domain. The purpose of such a manager is to ensure that the medical equipment acquired by the facility is safe and operational and fulfills the purpose of the requirement.

A detailed function list of a Medical Equipment Manager is as follows: His most important function is Equipment control and management of assets. For this he has to be supported by automated information assistance. Such a control starts when new equipment is attained and then continues with the maintenance of the device throughout its working years. Newly attained equipment must be carefully inspected by trained Biotechnical Equipment technicians. After this procedure proves the device to be safe to use, the Equipment Manager has to make sure that the device not only operates in a smooth and safe fashion but is also handled carefully and correctly.

Following this procedure, the other functions of such a manager is to make a detailed Equipment inventory. This must be done to keep a record of all the Equipment that is acquired by the facility and their year of attainment must be recorded along with any complaints that may be associated with the device. This is also associated with the manager’s function as a device quality manager. As soon as the device may fail to function or may show signs of failing, such a manager would have to take care of the procedures following its repair or disposal. He would also have to procure a new device to replace the old one. Therefore the assurance of quality of the equipments has to be looked after by the Equipment manager. This is to ensure the safety of the patients, as a malfunctioning equipment might go wrong in diagnosis or treatment or even monitoring, which could in turn affect a patient’s health. Therefore the manager must keep himself up to date with the condition of each device through constant checking.

Medical Equipment is the term that doctors and others in the medicine business use to refer to the instruments which helps them to diagnose, monitor or treat a medical condition. These instruments have to be carefully and scientifically designed and have to maintain a top level of safety standards. There are different varieties of these medical equipments which are categorized depending on their function.

Diagnostic Equipments are the ones which would help a doctor to diagnose a medical condition or to also run through check ups. This variety mainly consists of machines used for Medical Imaging, including various kinds of ultrasound and MRI machines and also the other scanning devices such as the CT Scanners.

Then there are the therapeutic equipments that help a doctor to carry out a treatment on a patient for a particular medical condition or illness. These include instruments such as Medical Lasers and pumps and important surgical machines. The various sub units that fall under the artificial Life Support System are also medical equipments. Some of these equipments are the Medical Ventilators, the ECMO, the heart-lung machines and the dialysis machines. All these equipments help the body to maintain its bodily functions instead of the organ that is failing to perform.

There are monitoring machines also that fall under the category of medical equipment. These help to keep a patient’s health under check and monitored all the time. The monitors keep all the vital signs in check including the important parameters such as blood pressure, EEG and ECG etc.

There are also those kinds of equipment that help those working in the medical laboratories to analyze samples of blood, urine or DNA for medical data and such related.

There are also those medical devices which are used for patients living at home and being administered by the patient himself or by another caregiver or family member. Such devices are called Home Medical Equipments, as they are easy and safe to be used in the house without professional help. These are also often referred to as Durable Medical Equipment as they are meant to last long even though they may be repetitively used. Examples of such medical equipment include, Artificial Limb, Medical Wheelchair, Air Purifier, Diabetic Shoes and Nebulizer etc.

For most of these Home Medical Equipments however, a doctor’s prescription would be needed for them to be obtained.
